AmeriCorps is a national program sponsored by the Corporation For National Service, but it works locally to improve the lives of everyone in your community. Through AmeriCorps, you can get involved in projects such as:
AmeriCorps programs are available in every state across the U.S.
AmeriCorps also has a special program for people between the ages of 18 and 24 called AmeriCorps*NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps). It's a 10-month, full-time residential program for people who like adventure, a challenge, trying new things and helping others. You'll be assigned to one of five campuses and travel with your team to serve in other communities and states, addressing needs in education, public safety, the environment and other areas.
Another program, AmeriCorps*VISTA, is also available. AmeriCorps*VISTA has been meeting the needs of low-income communities since 1965, when it was established as Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA). Since that time, more than 140,000 committed individuals have joined forces with local sponsors - public agencies and nonprofit groups - to strengthen low-income communities across the nation.
The National Senior Service Corps is available to volunteers age 55 and over. The Senior Corps is a national network of projects that place older volunteers in volunteer assignments in their communities. There are three national programs available:
